We had an interesting bus journey were paying paying for air conditioning means nothing, as our driver refused to put his window up. After a very sweaty 7 hours in a bus we arrived in Vang Vieng the world capital if tubing. We checked into our first guesthouse to be greeted by the biggest monster of a gecko we have ever seen in our lives living in our room. After escaping the gecko's domain, we headed out for tea only to be greeted by one of the German's Tim who we thought we had left behind in Luang Prabang. However due to the power cut we had experienced there last night he had no choice but to come to Vang Vieng sooner than planned in search of a cash point that was working. We had great fun that evening, including a game of killer pool and a bucket with a few shots consumed.
The next day we had an "English breakfast" to ease our bodies after last nights drinking, this English breakfast was unlike any we have had before, a small portion of battered fish accompanied dish?! We then got our rubber tubes from the tubing station with Tim and a new American Tim we met the night before. We got dropped off by the tuk tuk at the top of the river to be met by the rivers first 2 bar both with ear shatteringly loud sound systems and both offering out shots of whiskey from a bottle containing wasps! After finishing these two we headed to the next bar down the river after Caroline nearly ended up losing her tube but having a small Asian lad jumping in saving it and returning it to her; who said chivalry is dead. The next bar we encountered had the biggest swing on the riverbank, I was brave enough to do the swing (Caroline recorded it so we shall have to upload it so you can see me flying through the sky). The rest of the bar down the river lived up to all the hype and we also got to meet a few others on the tube down the river who we managed to keep in touch with after leaving Vang Vieng which is always a bonus. After running back to get our tubes in before 6pm (otherwise you lost your deposit which was about £4) we changed for tea. We ate at an Aussie bar of which the owner was celebrating his birthday. They also sold a massive Aussie burger which three burgers three bacon and two eggs plus cheese all in a bun. It was amazing but a struggle not to make a mess. There was a storm blowing it's way during our meal, meaning after 30 minutes of down pour we decided to make a run for it through the heavy rain. Tim was wearing only his boxers and a plastic bag over his dreadlocks to try to say dry. We made a run for it and got safely into the hotel just before the power went down in the whole town whilst I was on the toilet great timing!? But luckily Caroline saved the day by hunting out in the pitch black dark our torches. Tubing was ace and it's a must do even if it's a bit tacky, the scenery was amazing some of the most diverse we have seen yet. Next stop back to Luang Prabang.
