The alarm went at 6am, and it was bags out at 7am, breakfast at 7am and leaving at 8am. We aren't going to miss that part, and I'm looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow.
On the first day of the tour, everyone piled their plates high from the buffet breakfasts, feasting on fruit, and cereals, followed by a cooked breakfast and then muffins and croissants. Now we are all over it…. Everyone's clothes are tight, and we are happy now just with a bowl of yoghurt and a piece of toast.
Stratford-Upon-Avon is our key stop for today. We have a photo stop outside Anne Hathaways house, William Shakespeare's wife's house, then onto visit his birthplace. Fascinating building. Its hard to comprehend that is still exists after so much time. The old flagstone floor has been worn to a polished finish. Its interesting when you stop to consider all the people, including William himself, that have walked upon it. As we climbed up the crooked stairs and stood on the upstairs crooked sagging timber floor along with the other 46 people off our tour and others in front and behind, David did question the engineering design capabilities of the floor. Was it ever designed to carry so much weight? Had there been any modifications on it to ensure it could support us all? It certainly didn't feel like it could, as it creaked and groaned under our weight.
Coming out of the house, we wandered around the gardens and there some actors in the square taking requests for scenes from any Shakespeare play. I asked for MacBeth, from Out brief candle. Within less than a minute, a guy in a wheelchair introduced the scene, just after the death had been announced, and away he went. David video'd it…. I love that scene… "it is a tale, told by and idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. I was impressed, that could do any scene from any play, within minutes. They knew them all.
Now we are on a coach, heading to London. We have just hit our first traffic jam in our whole trip, The M40 is closed, so we are crawling along. We have been in the coach for two hours now and we have been told that we still have 2 hours to go, and now with problem of hitting the end of the day traffic, looks like we might be spending some more time on our coach.
