Hey again,
D.C ended with a bit of an anticlimax. After our earlier exploits seeing lots of things we got stuck inside due to hurricane Sandy. Which in DC amounted to a rainy day, not far off what you would expect from an English summer. On the Tuesday it had calmed down a bit so we ventured outside however everything was still closed off so after a short walked we wandered back to the hostel to prepare to leave DC the following day. This however looked not to be an easy task since we needed to get back to New York and nothing was running. Some of the busses were running a limited service however so far everyone in then hostel had failed to get on one. One group had had 3 different busses cancel on them, so our prospects were bleak. We did have tickets booked son with some trepidation we headed to the bus station expect I it to be cancelled. Much to our surprise we seemed to have got one of very few busses still running on our first attempt. Felt bad for the others who couldn't get out of DC but better them than us.
New York though and our luck ran out. The hostel we were boooked into had no power, no hot water at all and no running water upstairs. Nevertheless a bed ISNA bed so we still took it.
Following day after much waiting around we picked up our campervan. Getting out of New York was no easy task, especially since the road we wanted to use had been closed by sandy, but we headed west as fas as we could and made it out of the work zone. In Binghamton we found a Wallmart, which are amazing, seriously, they are massive and have everything, and pitched camp for the night.
Today we needed a starbucks to sponge off their WiFi so headed into Binghamton, which is a completely unremarkable city with nothing of interest in it as far as we can see. Tonight off to another Wallmart on the outskirts of Binghamton ready to head up to Syracuse tomorrow and then Niagara falls, weather permitting.
On a seperate note, may in just complain at how much I have had to carry my bag every time we moved location and how happy I am now to be unpacked. I know I have military friends who could do it with ease but when you have lived my lifestyle and not exercised since you were 15 then carrying a 18killogram bag 2-3 miles every time you move hostel or walk to the bus depot was not a fun experience. Is have not trained for this.
Also, on another note, can I say how s*** scary it is after 5 years of driving small cars on familiar roads in England to suddenly find yourself driving a massive van, in strange cities, on the wrong side of the road, not wholley knowing the rules of the road. Ahh well, getting the hang of it now though still not sure on all the rules.
Any hu, not in hostels anymore so these updates shall become less frequent. Will do so when I can.
Much lave

Dad I think I'd have been as s*** scared as you getting a van, with steering wheel on wrong side, out of New York. Did u get a sat nav to help, or was it all done from maps? Try to get a photo of Virginia, I'd love to see her. Is she a polite lady or an old slag?
Nikki Haha Dave, as if you aren't used to driving on the wrong side of the road and not really knowing what you're doing!! Don't you have too much fun in Virginia! ;)
