We had a most substantial breakfast and enjoyed chatting to our hosts Gerry and Jane who had no other guests at the end of their season. After checking out we payed a brief visit to the Falls which were quite impressive despite having much less water flowing than say in Spring. Then we were on the road again with a 2/3 hour drive ahead and a plan to make the lunch-time ferry to Grand Manan. Sadly we didn't have time to visit the Potato Museum, the town that is home to the largest axe in the world or the town with the longest covered bridge in the world. However, we did make the ferry in good time.
The ferry to Grand Manan would not have been out of place crossing the English channel. It was large and had a cafe and gift shop on board. The crossing was very smooth and took about 90 minutes. We saw a couple of porpoises following for a few minutes just before Swallowtail Lighthouse (see photo) marked the landing harbour. Then it was off and down the only main road on the 15 mile long island. Seal Cove turned out to be a picturesque harbour town (see photo view from our B&B).
The whole island felt a little sleepy, in part because we were arriving at the end of the season which most visitors gone. We had a wander around the harbour and old wharf buildings but the Trip-Advisor promised take-away didn't exist so we had to drive all the way back up the island to the ferry terminal to find a restaurant that was open! Nothing swish but we both enjoyed lobster on toast with fries and coleslaw, washed down with cool beer. Then it was back down the road to Seal Cove, blog updating and bed.

Elaine Barnett Hi to you both, sounds like you are having a great time travelling, sorry you missed the Potato Museum, maybe go back one day. It makes the distances in UK seem a bit short! Have fun.
Sally Can't believe you missed the potato museum. Also, "nothing swich but we enjoyed lobster on toast" ??! :-p
