Sunday was another fine day but as a travel day we had little chance to appreciate the continuing good weather. Packing was a quick job as we'd lived out of our bags and cases in the main here. We gave the cabin a clean, Dave made sure the wood supply was topped up for whoever came next and Jill made sandwiches for en route, then we were off.
The roads south got increasingly busy and we needed to stop for fuel. We pulled off at Concord where bizarrely the two petrol stations close to the main highway were shut. We did find one open in another direction and as we had a phone signal Dave gave his Dad a quick call - good to hear that all was well in Barrow. Then we pressed on and followed the highway which ran through Boston city centre where there are impressive bridges, overpasses and even a five-lane tunnel.
South of Boston and towards Cape Cod the roads got a little quieter but traffic was slow moving. As we closed in on our destination we realised the location map Dave had printed had the wrong street highlighted and we ended up down a dead end. We backtracked to the main road and drove up and down in both directions for a few frustrating minutes before spotting, to our relief, the correct street.
Marie, the owner, was away so we played hunt the keys in the garage as we'd had two versions of how to find the key! Walking into the house couldn't have been more of a contrast to our recent, rustic log cabin experience where there was nothing on the walls but wood. Marie is a retired antiques dealer and every room in the house is themed with displays of antique collections. We will post photos as the best way to illustrate but to give a flavour we'll just report that our bedroom is decked out (pun intended) with memorabilia from the great ocean liner the Queen Mary and has a blue and white colour scheme. Dave was particularly taken as his Uncle Joe had been the ship's Chief Engineer on its final journey.
