Monday was a lazy day soaking up the sun on the terrace but we did walk to the supermarket in the afternoon where we picked up fresh lobster tails. The very gay fishmonger gave us a full and colourful briefing on how to cook them. In the evening we walked around the Gonzales Bay area. We came across a Chinese Cemetery along the shore and then mazed our way up through the homes of Victoria's wealthy to an observatory and view point - great view of our bay and across to central Victoria in the distance. (We've added some photos to the Vancouver Island album.)
Tuesday took us out to the west coast Juan De Fuca Marine Trail. Dave resisted browsing when we stopped for coffee at a cafe, in the middle of nowhere, specialising in second hand records. The owner clearly had a very serious vinyl habit!
We had a short walk and lunch on China Beach before heading to a circular trail around Botanic Bay and Botanical Beach. The coastal section was beautiful with more pine-backed beach and some rare sandstone rock pools that were alive with mussels and rock-pool life (see photos).
And then back home to cook the lobster tails as per the instructions - delicious!
