Im currently in Auckland, I arrived on Monday, weather is crap today, pissing rain outside, nothing knew but its fairly humid here. Its a huge city, it just keeps going for ages, its nice though, im impressd with it, its definetly nicer tham Wellington. I went up on the Sky tower yesterday, its meant to be the biggest bulding in the southern hemisphere, the views are spectacular, plus you can stand on the see through class at the top which is always cool, like on top of the CN Tower in Toronto if anyone has been there..
The last time I updated the blog I was in Franz Josef on my way to Queenstown. Well we arrived in Queenstown on Paddys Day & the party started straight away, it turned out to be a really cool night, the best Paddys day I've had in years, sometimes at home they can turn into non events but it was magic out here....we ended up staying out till 5am drinking with a few english & yanks in the world bar..top night..
The next day I woke up early enough or maybe I just didnt sleep as i was pretty fresh, some of the lads didnt rise till 6 that evening. Queenstown is cool, but its just a adrenalin junkie town or party town..you need a lot of money to stay there so we headed off on Monday the 19th & travelled south, first stop was Milford Sound. It was pelting down, a horrible day but we did the boat trip anyway, couldnt really see anything apart from a few waterfalls & more rain..the boat was full of japs, nothing new there..It was a bit disappointing as the boat trip is weather dependant & it was really 75 dollars wasted as we couldnt see anything.
We stayed in Te Anau that night, the accomodation was good, we had a huge tv room with 42 inch screen tv so we just chilled & drank beer & watched dvds...relaxing night. The next day we headed down to Invercargill, the most southerly city in the world, feckin freezing there but its a nice old style town but there aint much to do there. Again we just relaxed, rented out a few dvds from the local store, they just gave them to us, no security or anything, cool. After that it was onto the Caitlins, which is just more scenery, nice but nothing special & then straight to Dunedin. Dunedin was a cool little town. We did the speights brewery tour, had a few lite ales, tasted the local brews & then headed out for the night. It was a fairly eventful night, we were all pretty hammered, downing shots etc..& all of sudden a brawl broke out in the bar..it didnt last long but it was started by some kiwi smacking sean the american guy in the face for no apparent reason. Sean's a big guy, built like an american footballer & it all kicked off from there. Harmless stuff really but exciting. I think the excitement went to Sean's head that night as he pissed the bed with Chris sleeping in the bunk below him..ah comical stuff. Chris managed to wake up in time & averted getting soaked..
So from Dunedin we headed back to Queenstown for a night & then onto Christchurch where our group started to split up. I flew to Wellington to check it out, spent 2 days there & flew up to Auckland. Wellington is ok, its a small town, but there aint much to see or do there, its definetly the worst of the 3 big cities in my opinion.
I hope to meet up with Chris the english geyser & we are going to rent a car & do a 4 day road trip east of Auckland..Should be fun, well hopefully the weather picks up..
