Where the Rainforest meets the Ocean
We had a fairly long drive up from Townsville (Magnetic Island) to Port Douglas, by us I mean I had a fairly long drive and soph had a fairly long nap.....
Port Douglas is a pretty up market holiday town, with free parking next to a beautiful beach which makes it ideal for the cheap skate backpackers not wanting to pay for accommodation. Between Townsville and Port Douglas Australia suddenly changes into tropical rainforest.
Cape Tribulation took us on lots of walks, truly showing us the tropical side of Australia, stunning views of mountains and Ocean all in one hit. It also gave us the tropical animal hit seeing a big Goanna and tree spiders.
After this we head to Mossman Gorge, where the story of Dave, the toilet and the spider begins..and to be honest the story is better than the gorge itself (English Gorges are just as good if not better). We get there early in the morning and Dave psyches himself up for checking out the loo after his last bush loo encounter on Magnetic Island. After a while he comes running back to the van white as a sheet and shaking every bit of his body to check there is'nt any spiders attached to him. He then tells me after checking the loo for spiders/snakes etc at least three times before settling down then a rather large (size of his palm 'he says') spider joins him at the crack of the door, before Dave had a chance to finish his business he's up and out of there. Funny times!( for some)
Next up Great Barrier Reef... it is awesome..
