Atherton Tablelands and Fitzroy Island
Well Atherton Tablelands were a breath of fresh air coming form Cairns and so much better than Cape Tribulation which was a surprise, we only found out about by a friends who's uncle had said it was a must see. It was a long slow getting there, 20km of solid up hill driving on stupidly winding roads, 30-40km/h in 3rd gear, but t was well worth it in the end.
So the Atherton Tableland are where Peter Andre filmed the video to mysterious girl, the countryside was beautiful and riddled with creeks and waterfalls. Millaa Millaa falls is the famous falls where a large part of the film was shot (so we are told) and i decided it would be rude not to have a swim there. This was also where we saw our biggest snake to date (yes, dave did suitably s#$t! himself, very amusing). There was a fair bit of driving to be done but it was good as it helped us to have a proper look around. On our way we stopped to do some cheese and yoghurt tasting (don't we sound sophisticated...) and then hunted out some more waterfalls.
The second day took us to the highlight waterfalls, first was Josephine falls, which had falls you could swim in and slide down, it was like a free waterpark (see the video section). The second was Babinda Boulders which had some nice pools and rocks to jump off.
Fitzroy Island
Fitzroy was a wild card choice that not many backpackers go to but we had been recommended it, so went for it, and we are pleased to say we were not disappointed. There is a summit walk which we did early in the morning as its a fairly steep climb to the top, the views were amazing, a whole 360 of the island and coast. Then we spent the afternoon relaxing on Nudey beach, quite famous for its beauty. We were a little disappointed, it wasn't so Nudey as there were no nudests however it was a paradise beach with pretty good snorkeling. A day was not enough!
