We were headed for Fraser Island, first we had to collect our 4x4 van then we had to go shopping. Rachel and I were in charge manly because no one else could be bothered. We then caught the ferry to Fraser Island. We has six others in our group, two Italians who hardly spoke English and four nineteen yr olds! So in all thats five boys and three girls. me and Rachel were the mums!!! First we had to drive from one side of the island to the other on a dirt/sand track. We then drove up the beach to Champagne pools. The clouds were getting darker but we ignored them. We set up our camp, I should point out that our tents are big cloth things held up by a wooden pole in the middle! They aren't waterproof!! We cooked a bbq, we were just finishing when the heavens opened. We set in our van for a bit then got in our tent.We had put tarpaulin over our tent to keep the rain out. Five minutes later my side of the tent was flooded. I slept in the van while Rachel stayed in the tent on the dry side. The next morning the sun was out, we packed up and found some proper toilets instead of having to dig a hole! We then headed to the Maheno shipwreck, the whole thing has been washed up on to the beach. We then went to Eli creek befroe setting up our tents, this time ensuring the tarpuilon was covering all of the tent!! It was time for a hike so we set off for Lake Wabby. The walk was really interesting as you started on a rainforest track and then it turned into giant sand dunes. It was so vast. Suddenly there was Lake Wabby, it was beautiful and definitly worth the hike over the sand dunes. After dinner we stood around talking to the other gorups. So far no rain. We then went to bed.
When we woke up th next moring it was pouring down with rain! Our tent was dry!!!! We had to take the tents down in the rain. It finally stopped and we drove to Lake Mckenzie, it was stunning. We caught the ferry back to the mainland and went out for fish and chips with some people we met in the other groups. Well done Rachel for driving, I was of course ready to take over if I was needed!!
Fraser Island was good, the sights were amazing and the people we met in the other groups were really nice. Our group were incrediably immature and a right pain in the arse! Here is just some of the things they did;
Put food out for the dingos(illegal)
Started a fire (illegal)
Had a food fight with our food
Let other peoples tents down
I know two year olds that are better behaved. But that enough about them i'm not wasting my breathe on them anymore!!
We headed to Noosa for a couple of days chilling out after the stres of Fraser. It rained the whole time!!
