Still living on the Islands of Bocas Del Toro. Was originally planning to spend maybe 2 to 3 nights here but we have both felt so at home here that we ended up staying 5 nights, and would of loved to stay longer but out Panama City flight is looming!
Our last day in this amazing place involved jumping on a catamaran and sailing off to visit all the islands that make up the Bocas. We also discovered by our captain (who has a striking similarity to Flavio Briatore - maybe that is what he is now doing after being kicked out of F1?!) that this place is called ´Mouth of the bull´ because when Columbus turned up here 500 odd years ago he thought he sea sounded like a load of charging bulls. And when he arrived at Bocas Del Drago (Mouth of the Dragon) he called it that because he saw a dragon on the shore (too many years at sea maybe?!)
Anyway, off we went on the catamaran sailing off between lots of small and large, inhabited and uninhabited islands mainly consisting of mangroves and tropical trees. After a good hour or two of lounging on deck we came into an area that was full of dolphins.
We were skeptical of seeing any after our turtle wash out but before we could say ´flipper!´ the sea was full of them leaping up and down, sticking their fins in the air, and a little baby one even poked his head up to say hello.
A little while later we arrived at a nice spot, dropped anchor and then equiped ourselfs with masks, snorkels and flippers for a spot of reef diving. Once in the water the whole amazing colourful reef came into view , it was rather mind blowing. However the presence of hundreds of jellyfish floating around made it a somewhat tense outing!
Then up on board again where we all devoured large ham sandwiches and a tasty Balboa beer before heading off to another reef for some more diving. There was less jellyfish this time which was nice.
Once complete, up on board we go again and spend the next hour lazing around on deck with P-Diddy, Amy Winehouse and Justin Timberlake blaring out of the boat speakers. The sun was shining, the sails were up and we were simply floating around the Caribbean. It was a very nice and relaxing way to spend our last day inside the mouth of the bull.
