Maybe the travellers are getting a spoilt with all the beauty that we see (and also a bit tired after 2 months on the road), as the last couple of days in lovely Granada we have struggled to motivate ourselves for much sightseeing! We have down a fair amount of meandering and a lot of eating, but mainly recharging batteries and making some plans to make sure we get through Costa Rica and into Panama in time to catch our flight to S America!
Granada is a very well preserved colonial town, although with quite a dramatic history... its position on a massive lake which can be accessed by a river from the pacific meant that it was sacked by Pirates 3 times. Then, its rival city, Leon hired a crazy American, William Walker, to attack Granada. He duly burnt it to the ground and left a note saying "Here was Granada"... Even today the 2 cities are still rivals and at different ends of the political spectrum.
Off for some more relaxing before making our way accross Lago de Nicaragua (the largest lake in central america) to some volcanic islands in the morning.
