Finally we made it through 9 countries, many many many miles of travelling to arrive in our final destination of Chile.
This country always held a fasination to us for some reason, we couldnt quite put a finger on why but the idea of the country just appealed to us.
The whole idea of our travelling trip becane with wanting to go to Mexico and Chile, so we simply joined the dots inbetween!
The dangers of the expectation is that there is a high chance of disapointment, Nicaragua was so hyped up that it felt like it fell short a little at the time and we were concerned that the super hyped up Chile would let us down.
But no it did not, in fact it exceeding our expections, so for the last time our observations are as follows:
1) Chile is an easy country to travel in, we did well picking this as our last destination after the more challenging other countries. The buses are all clean,, on-time and plentiful. The streets are as safe as you are ever going to get in Latin America, and the accommodation and facilities are very good indeed.
2) Chile is expensive! We spent about 33 pound a day between us in Nicaragua, 40 in Guatemala, Peru and Bolivia which was nice. Our most expensive country before Chile was Belize at a wopping 65 pounds a day. Well Chile trumped that with 100 pounds a day spent.
3) The country is so long that it cannot help but have very varied landscapes, climates and cultures. We of course got ourselves down to Patagonia which was an amazing experience and completely different in everyway to the central of North of the country
4) We ticked off some things we really really wanted to see in Chile. The beautiful Glaciars, the amazingly funny Penguins and stargazing in the clearest skies in the world. Its worth coming here just to do those three things alone.
5) The Chileans are a much more sensible bunch that the other countries we have visited. The actually stop at zebra crossings to let you walk across (amazing!) and stop at red lights and generally dont seem that interested in trying their best to run you over, which is nice. However they do love to push in front of you all the time, queueing does not compute in their heads
6) Completos ! Yum yum yum, They love the hotdog over here, and so does Dave.
7) Whilst Pisco Sour drink in Peru was made with egg, Chileans dont so Dave was again happy. Apart from the very last night where we ordered one each and we started to drink only to discover they had put egg in....those cheeking Chileans trying to catch Dave out at the end. Emily was happy though as she got to have both for herself (Dave then had to carry her home)
8) Not really do to with Chile but we did hop over to Argentina for one day to see an amazing Glacier. That was awesome and worth every penny (it was many pennies!)
9) Oh, on that note. The money here is crazy. You are spending in the ten thousands just buying drinks and snacks. We have spent just over 2 million Chilean Peso´s here. So we really were living like millionaires!
Well that will do, we are now at the end of the road and no more countries apart from a 2 hour transfer in Canada before back to the winters of England!
