What better way to spend Christmas Eve than to go to a dinosaur park!
We had a choice between a cheap normal local bus to the park, or the more expensive´Dino bus´ which is basically the same normal bus but with dinosaur stickers all over it and a big dinosaur head on the front.....so of course we took the more expensive dino bus (how can you resist a bus with a big dinosaur head on the front!)
So we arrived and had to watch a video, in the traditional Bolivian style it randomly switches between Spanish and English language during the middle of conversations, but the images of the Dinos were cool.
Then we were introduced to our excitable guide called Juan Carlos who clearly loves his job ´Just try and imagine, please really try and imagine these amazing large Dinosuars walking past, just imagine, imagine! whhhhooo´ that kind of thing.
The park itself was established after an earthquake 50 years ago that required a large supply of concrete to help rebuild the towns buildings. So a company was set up and they started to dig away, when one day they came across some interesting footprints. After more investigation they found hundreds and hundreds of footprints. The concrete company then stopped working at this location and it was handed over to the government.
Lots of clever paleontologists (no doubt with big beards) came over from USA and Europe and were amazed at what they found. They confirmed that these are from at least 4 species of dinosaurs from the Cretaceous period. If this place was in the States or in England it would be world famous.
The areas was once a lake and dinos walked up and down to drink, the ground is now about 75 degrees due to the millions of years of lifting due to plate tectonics. So today when you look at the scene, it looks like these guys walked up an almost vertical wall.
It was a super cool day, kinda weird standing there looking at hundreds of footprints from somewhere around 100 million years ago. The photo might not show it very well (we were kept at a distance for their protection (and ours as the cliff is completely unstable!), look carefully for the footprints in the background) but Emily is trying to make up for it by doing her best Dinosaur impression. Nodenasaurus!

OLIVE STEPHENSON Well, it was certainly a different kind of activity from the normal Christmas Eve's stuffing of turkey etc etc but infinitely more interesting . I wonder how the actual Dec.25th went? We were delighted to hear you on THE day. Keep safe Lol G'ma XXXXXXX
Dan Mossop What a great way to spend Christmas. The park is an incredible place which, like you say, would be much more famous if it was somewhere else in the world. Here's some info I wrote up for anyone wanting to visit the Cretaceous Park: http://www.sucrelife.com/sucres-dinosaur-park/ Thanks, Dan
