Hi folks!
After spending a few days with Catherine and Steve, Denise and I collected our Nissan X-Trail hire car and headed off across country to Canberra. We used the main highway to get us clear of South Sydney, then took to the minor roads. We love to do this on our travels, as this gets us into the heart of a country and allows us to find lots of out-of-the-way places and fascinating people.
After Canberra we drove over the Snowy Mountains, through an area that had been badly damaged by the bush fires of 2001, though it is now self-regenerating.
We came back up the eastern seaboard, stopping at many of the coastal inlets and beaches, arriving back at Manly for Steve's birthday on Sunday, 22nd February.
This little jaunt took us 1500km, yet on a map of Australia on a 'T'-shirt, the route we travelled could be covered with a thump-print! Australia is a HUGE country, with Europe easily fitting inside the coastline.
On Monday we are heading up the coast north of Sydney for a few more days; just exploring. Then we are back to Sydney to collect Catherine and Steve for a trip to the Blue Mountains next weekend.
