My Trip
Hey all
So I am in Bangkok, and it was a bit scary at first but now I am settling in well. My hotel is gorgeous real 4 star accommodation, plus we have ESPN 24 hours a day. That's how I got to watch Fulham versus Wigan live at 2.30am. The hotel has everything a backpacker could want, restaurants, TV, Swimming pools on both the roof and on the lower floors, car service. Aah this is nice. The pool on the roof is great with panoramic views of the sprawling city. Funny cos Bangkok doesn't seem to have a centre. Anyhow I went exploring and found myself lost in a shopping centre...They have a sky train here that goes above the city...really fast, but it doesn't seem to go many places. The City itself is quite dirty...with a population larger than London's. Anyhow I did what any lone traveller would do I booked a tour for around 20 quid...and caught a taxi to the only place in Bangkok I know...The Ko San Road.... Backpacker heaven! A street dedicated to cheap clothes, CDs etc..... With bars everywhere as well. I went into one, mainly cos it was baking outside...its 35 degrees here. And re-watched a bit of the Fulham game, whilst chatting to some backpackers. One I met was from Bangkok, his name I couldn't pronounce so I just called him O...he showed me around a couple of other bars...including a strip bar, where you can buy the girls for 3000 bar. That's around 45 pounds. Didn't feel to comfortable in this environment so left sharply to a much nicer bar. Am glad I got to see it though, now I know what everyone talks about when they come here.
After a few a guy took us to another dodgy bar...200 Bar for a drink and you get to pick a girl to chat too.... It's so wrong! There were hundreds of them just sitting there. Again I walked straight out. And found myself getting back to the hotel at 3.30am and my tour starts at 7am...oops
So very hungover I got onto the Bus in the baking weather...and had a tour of Bangkok. Including some interesting Temple ruins, and the Royal Palace. Was cool, all topped off by a cruise back to the hotel and free food. I like Thai food.... Really delicious and such variety! You can find restaurants everywhere here, not just on the streets.
So Bangkok is a fun place.... And I wish I had more time here, the people are really friendly, the whole sex industry thing is not as in your face as the rumours have it...but its not hard to find. In all it was really nice, and the heat is astonishing. Anyhow I am off to watch Chelsea versus Manchester United.... So cultured. Off to Vietnam tomorrow.
