So its day three in Germany and its still very hot!We had a minute of rain earlier which obviously made me miss home?heehee! Now I know you are not going to believe this, I hardly believe it myself but yesterday I went for a 5 mile (yes 5 mile) run.Now I will admit I didn't run it all, but I still got the exercise required. Believe me I am hurting today. But have decided that my Heathrow Injection (the term deemed by my Aussie friends for the weight gain when entering the UK) is due to stop. I went to see the gym in my hotel, and it's no bigger than my hallway with no electric machines and no weights! So I decided to run, and afterwards swim. My hotel is really nice, with a lovely restaurant, room service, bar (I have not attended yet) and pool/sauna/solarium. My room is huge, with a Plasma screen, mini bar, Double bed and gorgeous bathroom. But a couple of miles down the road I found (whilst running/puffing) the town of Kaarst. Gorgeous Rhineland town with a huge lake and many bistros/cafes/bars surrounding it and the smallest church you have ever seen. With the sunshine, the park and the lake - I think I have found one of Germanys best kept secrets. My only problem, is my German is very limited, and although everyone I have come into contact so far has been well versed in English I feel very naïve not to communicate in their native language, so I do try.Guten Tag, Kernan ze English? - Not sure is that's how you spell it but I can say it. Plus the coolest thing is they use Moi Moi like Fin does (the slang for saying hello!). Made me laugh! I miss Fin.Another little treat I had was whilst going for some water from the water machine at work, the Germans seem to prefer their water carbonated! Definitely a cultural thing, but I had many a laugh with some of my colleagues regarding it. Luckily work have supplied me with a car VW Golf Mach 5. Drives really well, and with the Sat Nav in German - I try to use the map instead. My work is about 15 minutes from the Hotel, which I am told has a station which may allow me to spend some of my free time in Dusseldorf. Not sure of the car parking etc? so better take public transport I think. I also saw a sign to Mönchengladbach - very exciting.Anyhow, I am heading home this weekend and probably staying the weekend after that and traveling up to Hamburg. So with two German cities on my radar, the rest of the journals should make interesting reading. Auf Wiedersehen
