Brief update:
Went to the top of Victoria peak on Saturday by tram (decided to walk from the hostel to star ferry pier which took about 2 hours - we were knackered!). The views when you finally get to the top are amazing as you can see all over the city.
Sunday was a day of discoveries as we got up early as the weather was just to humid to sleep and decided to wander down streets aimlessly. We found a local food market where you could buy very fresh fish (they clubbed it to death if you didn't want live fish wriggling in a bag) and chickens (necks rung when you pointed to the one you wanted). It certainly makes you appreciate Tesco at home.
We visted the bird park on Monday near our hostel where the locals all go to walk their birds in little cages - noisy and wierd, cats just lurking hoping one will escape. Also visited the Flower Market and Goldfish Markets on the tourist map but were disappointing as they are really just rows of shops that sell fish and flowers.
After living on noodles (eaten badly with chopsticks) for 3 days we were sick of the sight of them (most dinners have looked and smelt like something the cat has sicked up and to be honest we were starving) we went looking for more traditional food and beverages. We went to an irish bar called Murthys last night which was recommended by Robbo in the hope of finding a cup of english tea (four days without a cup and Darren is gasping) but instead ate good old english food and drank beer.
We have booked extra nights in the same hostel (Dragon Hostel) as after looking at the others nearby and listening to horror story of women being beaten in front of one while the 'security' just looked on until the police arrived we think ours is wonderful and dont want to move.
Visit to China is off as they are being battered by Typhoons and tornados at the moment and flights are being cancelled all the time.
Well that's it for now Darren and Davina
