Cape Town
We touched down in cape town at about 8 (south African, UK+1), the tarmac of the runway was already baking and I worked up a sweat just walking to the transfer shuttle. I read on the internet the day before that the temperature would be somewhere in the 30Cs today. We made our way through the international terminal going through customs, collecting our bags and such. Then we arranged our transfer from the airport to out hostel, Ashanti Lodge. We waited in the drop off zone for 30-40 minutes, but our transfer was suppose to arrive in 15, eventually a guy arrived asking for Tom we guessed he meant Tonge and he had an Ashanti shirt on anyway. Apparently we where suppose to be in the NEW drop off zone, Rob wasn't happy and neither was the guy but everyone is entitled to one mistake. When we got to our shuttle there where to girls waiting already, Anna and Amy, who where taking 4 months out after attending Uni at Leeds. As it was they where on the same flight as us out and where leaving a day earlier on the same flight to Perth and where also catching the Baz bus the same time as us. We got chatting and soon arrived at Ashanti. We couldn't check in until 1pm so after freshening up, Rob and I went for a walk around Cape Town. Our hostel was located about a 15 minute walk from the centre. In the Garden/city bowl area on Hoff streetclose to table mountain. We strolled into town down long street the equivalent of oxford street. Now shops in S.A are a bit different to our shops. Windows and doors have gates which you need to buzz before they let you in, we didn't have any problems, but you feel bad calling an assistant over to let you in when you only want to browse. - to be continued
