So...we are into our penultimate week and the cliche that 'time flys when you are having fun' seems more appropriate than ever. Where has three months gone?! Since the last blog so much has happened. Obviously there has been a LOT of skiing and boarding on variable snow conditions. In the last week Fernie has gone from slushy mud snow to perfect fluffy powder...it's a bit strange but a great end to the season. There has also been dog sledding, winter camping, a trip to Montana for me, many parties and nights out, being deputy sheriffs for Fernie Griz day, ice hockey, mountain biking and a surprize visit from the parents (there you got a mention...you happy now?!) Slowly but surely the season is wrapping up but there are still level 2 assessments to take next week and the famous Fernie Hot Dog Day, where everybody dresses up 80s style to hit the slopes!
Personally my skiing has come on loads in the last few weeks and I have never felt more confident pointing my two planks down a slippery slope and just letting go. Dan has also come on fantastically and I was even lucky enough to get my first snowboarding lesson a couple of weeks ago from The Master. Havent managed to get Dan on skis this time round but maybe next season he will realise that four edges are better than two!
As I write this I look out our hotel window and it is a complete white out. The snow is falling thick and fast now and the ski hill has dissapeared from view behind rolling snow clouds. Its going to be a great last week on the snow! I think me and Dan have easily settled ourselves into the daily routine here of hitting the slopes and returning to the 'real world' seems very odd. I cant imagine using my brain for anything other than 'which run shall I take now?', 'how was my turn radius?' or 'can I jump that any higher next time?'. Reality will hit hard I think!
Well I'm going to sign off now as I have to battle the snow down to the supermarket to get dinner sorted. Dan sends his love to everyone (he is currently in the hot tub) and we are both looking forward to catching up with friends and family when we get home.....oooh the snow looks good.....no seriously we are looking forward to coming home!
Lots of love
Rhan xx
