Blog Day 169 Sat 22nd October 2011
We enjoy a lie in today & after breakfast we attempt to watch another of the scratched up movies. This time a Julia Robert movie called Step Mom, we only get about 10mins in before we give up all together & decide to head out for a walk along the boardwalk & over the bridge to a place called Southbank. Southbank is a lovely family oriented area with a huge swimming pool, park & beach area & rainforest walk which is currently closed but due to be re-opened tomorrow by the Queen. It's crazy to think that this was where the floods hit a little later than this time last year. One restaurant has a Thank you list printed on the window. It tells how the restaurant was full up to the ceiling with water, everything that they didn't get time to remove washed away & destroyed. Fish, Jellyfish and even Bull Sharks were swimming around in the kitchen, yet looking at the boardwalk & Southbank now you'd never realise that was just under a year ago. It's pretty amazing!
Once again the clouds have been threatening to rain all day & before we know it, it hits.
With a quick scoot into Starbucks on the way back to the hostel, the rest of the evening we chill out.
Blog Day 170 Sun 23rd October 2011
Today doesn't really amount to much we get some Internet & make use of it by uploading some pictures & blogs for all you lucky people at home to be envious of.
Tonight is the final of the World cup, New Zealand vs France for those who weren't following it. As we were walking along the boardwalk we spotted a restaurant/bar called the Boardwalk funny enough. With a $7 pizza & beer offer on which we couldn't resist.
The bar was packed when we arrived but we manage to score a couple of seats right in front of a screen. The only downfall was that the table was also occupied by a French family. The atmosphere was buzzing when the game kicked off, a good mixture of French & Kiwi's in the bar. A close game with a win by only 1 point to New Zealand see's the friendly Kiwi's in the bar shaking hands with the French. So finally New Zealand have won the World Cup! We can't help but think that tonight would be a good night to be out on the town in New Zealand.
With the game over we decide that if we hang about we will only end up spending more money so a romantic stroll across the Boardwalk with the city of Brisbane lit up in the background as we pass & back to our apartment we go.
