Hi everyone,
Just letting you know what we've been up to the last few weeks. We were very sad to leave Australia, as we had such an amazing time there and were both apprehensive about moving onto Asia.
We started in Singapore, where we had three great days. Although it's only a small country there was lots to see and do. We visited the famous Raffles Hotel and Danny went up in a balloon to see the Singapore skyline. It was hooked to the ground, but Josie was still too scared to go up! We went on a river boat crusie and saw the Merlion, a famous statue, half lion half fish. We also saw ancient sights of the city, a traditional market place and grand hotels. Following the boat trip, we visited a couple of Hindu temples, which were amazing, the Sri Mariamman Temple especially with a huge tower of carved figures above the entrance!
On our first evening we went to the Night Safari, where we were able to have photos taken with snakes and a wild cat. We watched a native warrior show with flame eaters and blow pipes and traditional native dancing. Danny managed to get himself up on stage to put a huge flame down one of the warrior's throats. This was followed by a Creatures of the Night Show, where we saw wild animals perform tricks in the dark, scary but amazing. We then took a tram ride around the safari, seeing wild animals such as lions, tigers, rhinos, hippos and giraffes to name a few. There were no cages and the animals were free to walk on the road. Unfortunately we were unable to take any photos, but our memories will last forever (Danny's great one liner).
The following day, we visited Little India, Orchard Road (shopping heaven) and the Botanic Gardens. On our last day, we took a long bus journey across the border and into Malaysia, ending up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's very busy capital. In KL we went up the Menara Tower (Sky Tower) and saw right across the city. Danny was brave enough to do the Sky Tower's zip wire (twice oooh!). Our second day in KL, we visited Malaysia's twin towers, the Petronas Towers, and walked along the famous bridge connecting the two. We also made it over to Lake Titiwangsa, where we went on the Malaysian Eye. Following this we visited Central Market, very busy!
Early the next morning, we went north of KL to the Cameron Highlands (famous for Malaysian tea). We arrived late in a thunderstorm, so booked a tour for the following day. The tour was brilliant, it took us up into the mountains, visiting many tea plantations, learning how tea is grown, picked, processed and drunk! We saw a tea factory in practice, treked through the jungle and also a native Malaysian village.
We were then on the bus again, this time to the island of Penang. A long bus trip and a short ferry ride, we eventually found our way into Georgetown, Penang's capital. We did lots of sightseeing, including the clock tower, Fort Cornwallis (the oldest British settlement in Malaysia), lots of temples which included the Snake Temple. An amazing experience, where snakes are hung from picture frames, plants, on tables and left to roam free! We had a photo taken holding a python, and Danny stupidly said yes to having two more snakes put on his head!
The next day we made our way by ferry to the beautiful island of Langkawi. We had two nights here with amazing weather and lots of sunbathing on white sandy beaches.
This has taken us to where we are now, in Thailand, and the start of a new chapter in our travels (Danny again!).
Take care everyone, missing you
Josie and Danny x
