Tassie Devil Tour Day 4 - East Coast
The first place we stopped today was Launceston, which is the 2nd biggest town in Tassie, and the first place that's felt like proper civiliastion all week! We went for a walk around Cataract gorge which is beautiful and there is a park area in the middle which is full of peacocks. There was a peacock and wallaby right next to each other, which isn't something i ever thought i'd see.
Our tour guide wasn't having a good morning, firstly because there was some kind of dispute over petrol when he went to fill the bus up and THEN we got stopped by the police. Apparently he was doin 115 kph in a 110 area but we got away ok. Our next stop was the Bay of Fires on the west coast of Tassie and we stopped at a beach called cosy corner. It was absolutely gorgeous. I've never seen a beach like it, it looked like it came straight off a postcard from somewhere really exotic (will try n get the pictures on here asap, but it won't be til i get back to Melbourne at the end of the month). Being tourists that we are, me and Laura had our photos taken in the sea and got absolutely drenched by a big wave, which Kate superbly caught on camera.
I had my hair cut tonight by a German girl on our tour. I was worried cos i wasn't completely sure she understood what i was saying but it looks ok, so i'm happy! $10 for a haircut was too good a bargain to miss.
Tassie Devil Day 5 - Australia Day - Wineglass Bay
The three of us got all dressed up in Aussie themed clothes to celebrate Australia day today. We were the only ones in our group getting so carried away but we didn't care! To get the beach at Wineglass bay you have to hike for like an hour half way up a mountain and down again, but it was worth it, because it was yet another lovely beach. Randomly on the beach there was a wallaby hopping around and it was really tame and it came right up to us so we could feed it.
The house we were staying at for the night was in Port Arthur which is the site of one of the prisons that they used to send British convicts to. Also, in 1996 there was a big massacre there when a guy killed 35 people with a shotgun and injured loads more. Our house was next to a graveyard - not scary at all!
