Part 1 - Days 77-78 in the world of Sam and Dani: When we arrived in Nha Trang we checked into a guesthouse and went for a few hours rest because we were so tired after the night bus experience. After our rest we got some food then hit the beach, just what we needed.... sun, sea and sand, oh yes!
Some ladies came and offered us a massage so four of us decided we'd get one, whoever said pain is a good sign lied, Sam was in agony as this lady nearly broke her back! We had the usual people come along trying to sell us things, but all of a sudden they threw our clothes over their baskets and legged it! The masseurs explained that the police were along the prom and that it is illegal for them to sell things on the beach, so basically they did a runner and would come back shortly to collect them, madness! The next day we found a nice pool along the beach so we chilled out there ready for the second night bus.. it ended up being a very good move because the bus was horrendous!
Part 2 - Days 94-102 in the world of Sam and Dani: When we arrived of the nightbus we were all pretty exhausted. Not only did we have the smallest beds on the bus that didn't allow us to lie straight, we had a weird Vietnamese man between us that kept touching the boys and farting preventing sleep. Because we arrived at 6am we checked in to the first guesthouse we saw, but later when we went for a walk and realised that it was quite far out from where everything else is so went on the hunt for new accommodation. Now we blame the boys for choosing a nice hotel in Hoi An because we suddenly became very picky when looking around, but eventually we found a really nice hotel in the centre for $9 a room.
We had already decided that our time in Nha Trang would be a mini holiday (yes a holiday within a holiday), partly because of it being a beach resort area. We visited a mud spa on the second day- mud baths, hot spring baths and relaxations pools- via the mode of tandem bikes. This started of a brilliant idea, went slightly downhill when we detoured the wrong way (due to Pete and Dani's navigation skills), but definitely redeemed itself on the return journey. Not only did we end up in the middle of rush hour traffic, trying to go round a roundabout through crowds of motorbikes, Sam also managed to drive herself and Rob into a ditch and cause two traffic jams. But the best part was when Pete and Dani's tyre exploded whilst they were cycling along, it was the loudest noise that scared them both half to death. After laughing pains had worn off, Sam and Dani rode the working tandem back to the lady whilst the boys carried theirs back the remaining km.
VinPearl water/theme park was also a really good day. We got cable cars over to another island where we were practically the only people there, yes a private theme park for us! The theme park was only small but there was indoor amusements that were all free, and there was an aquarium within the park too which was really good. The waterpark was by far the best part of the day, especially the family ride (a giant rubber ring/raft that everyone sat in going down a slide) where we were joined by a large (fat) polish guy who almost squashed us! The other days when we could actually get out of bed were spent by a lovely pool next to the beach. This is where we met Paulien, a Dutch girl the boys already knew from Laos.
Evenings.. well.. Drinking football occurred during the Liverpool v United game, Dani and Pete supporting United, and Rob and Sam supporting Liverpool. It basically works that when your team gives away a throw in you consume 1 finger of your drink, 2 fingers for a free kick and corner, and you finish your drink if the opposite team scores and if your team has a player sent off. If you saw that match you can imagine it was an interesting game. We also entered a quiz on one of the nights and came 3rd (the fact there were only 4 teams entered in irrelevant), and learned some interesting facts, for example did you know a baby oyster is called a spat, and that Bjork has a really long second name (which we got right thanks to Rob). The other nights were spent at Guava bar and the Sailing Club.
When we arrived in Nha Trang, Rob bet Dani that she wouldn't be able to finish a double cheesburger. Having not finished a full meal for nearly a week Rob was so confident that he would win, he offered to pay for the burger if she won. Dani stepped up to the challenge and to everyones surprise (Rob's disappointment) she eventually finished it.
Paulien introduced us to a new drinking game that had us all in stitches. Basically, you stack a deck of cards on top of a bottle and take it in turns to blow as many or as little cards off as you like, aslong as you dont blow the last one off. Rules: you're only allowed one breath, if you dont blow any off you drink, and if blow the last one off or if you blow them all off, you drink.. simple? Well, once you get the hang of it you can work out how to stitch other people up, but either way its a good game for pre-drinking, thanks Paulien =) When we were in Nha Trang last time the manager of the Sailing Club was trying to get us to go, but because we were on the nightbus obviously couldnt. However, we did tell him we'd be coming back in a few weeks so he signed a voucher entitling us to a free bottle of vodka. So after playing our new drinking game we headed over to claim it, the guy clearly didnt think we would be back but held up his end of the bargain and supplied us with a free bottle =)
Regardless of where you are in the world, it is a rule you have to dress up on Halloween, so whilst Rob and Dani lay by the gorgeous pool we'd discovered, Sam, Pete and Paulien went on the hunt for costumes. Vietnam doesn't have a fancy dress shop or any shops of any help so we had to improvise. Rob wasn't keen on the idea at first but once we put the outfits on that evening he soon changed his mind. We managed to buy some white shirts, tie, face paint and were soon transformed into dead schoolies.. and we looked ace! So good infact that we were chosen in the top 5 best dressed at the pre-halloween party (the other entrants were locals). The following night, actual Halloween, we re-used the outfits and hit the Sailing Clubs party, again being told how good we looked. We lost count the number of times we were asked for photos with people, it was like we were celebrities! The photos tell the story of the night =)
