We woke up feeling slightly worse for wear, and decided that today wasnt going to be productive. But lucky for us we packed the night before (yes we're finally learning). Although we were only in Sydney for a short time we did alot and this was evident by how tired we were. As we were waiting for the taxi to pick us up from the hostel, Sam fell asleep, when we were sat at the Greyhound station waiting for the bus, Sam fell asleep, and for the majority of the bus ride, Sam was asleep. Clearly showing that we packed alot into Sydney... and drank too much goon!
When Sam did wake up briefly on the bus, she was very amused to see a random man sat next to Dani. Now, this wouldnt normally be strange apart from the bus was practically empty! After Dani giving him 'the look' he said he would move if no one else got on claiming he thought he had to sit in an allocated seat, hmmm we dont think so.
Well, we arrived in Canberra after the 4 hour bus ride and stepped outside the terminal realising why people told us to miss it out, it was a ghost town! The bus station would only hold our luggage until 6pm and as our bus out wasnt until 12am we started on a walk to the YHA hostel where we were told we could leave them. On route an old(ish) man stopped us and said he knew what we were looking for and sent us down a different road from what we were following. Now, this guy must have been done over by backpackers in the past cos he sent us the complete wrong way causing us to carry our ridiculously heavy bags unnecessarily further than we needed in the scorching heat, not impressed! But we eventually made it to the hostel and got a quick sort out and put our bags in the lockers, which is where Dani (aka Munchkin for the benefit of Harley and Juan) climbed in and actually fitted inside (see the pic).
Because we arrived at 1pm and were leaving on the 12am bus (we only stopped to say we've been to the capital) Juan arranged for his friend Brownie to show us around. After seeing the amazing sites of Canberra (the old Parliment House, the new Parliment House and the Abo Embassy) we headed off to the pub for a Sunday session =) After an afternoon of drinking in which Dani actually drank shots(!!!) we went back and got organised for the dreaded night bus to Melbourne. Surely it cant be worse than the ones in Asia??
