Day 107- 111 in the world of Sam and Dani: We left Kuala Lumpur very excited for our flight to Bali. So excited that whilst going through the airport we took the trolley on the moving floor (Dani thinks it's called a travelator), little did we know that it holds the trolley still so when it came to getting off, the trolley was stuck. However, we kept moving! Along with us being pushed into it and slipping all over the place, like one of those comedy sketches you see on TV, other passengers were coming from behind so we caused a little jam! Luckily some people helped us, but we looked ridiculous! When we arrived in Bali we got caught out by the men in the airport, you know the ones who offer to carry your bag. You think they're being all nice helping two lovely girls with their REALLY heavy bags, and then they ask for a tip, nice! We got a taxi to our hotel, got checked in then headed to an internet cafe. As you will have noticed the blog was lacking an update for a few weeks so we decided we'd have a big internet session to get most things up to date so then we could chillax in Bali without feeling guilty. Three and a half hours later we emerged, 3 weeks up to date, pictures up and only 2 pound lighter (yes super cheap). Well there's not that much to say about Bali really, we just relaxed. Spent the daytime getting frazzled by the pool in the scorching heat, and the nights out enjoying the nightlife. We were eating at a new food place where you got unlimited rice and two choices of dishes for 70p and in the evenings were drinking out getting cocktails for 70p and beer for 35p... we were very happy! We met up with Paul and Tony who we met originally in Laos, and made friends with a group of four from our hotel. Our last night was the best though, we were in a club called Bounty and were just enjoying ourselves dancing round and forgetting about how sweaty we were because of the heat. All of a sudden Cotton eye Joe comes on and most people just stop dancing confused why that tune has come on. We just looked at each other, laughed and began dancing. By the end of the song we had loads of people waiting to join in! We also met two lads from Perth who own a club, very important contacts we think =) On one of the days we thought we'd do a trip so that we got to see some of the beautiful island. We set off early and our first stop was a local dance show. At first we weren't too sure about it because the first fifteen minutes comprised of a lion just dancing, but it soon got better when a very strange man came on and entertained us. After that we went to the Waterfalls which although not what we expected were lovely. We thought we'd be able to walk to them and possibly have a swim but we were only able to look at it from a viewing deck. The next stop was Monkey Forest which is exactly what it says, lots of monkeys hanging around in a forest. There was a pond in the middle called the monkey tub and is where the mischievous monkeys would jump in and fight with each other, to the right of that you can walk towards a temple, but be warned this is where the evil monkeys are! As we walked along there were two monkeys having a little scrap, one saw Sam looking and went for her, followed by the other who were trying to get her feet! Sam was not impressed and a little bit scared after that =( The last major stop was the Volcano which was the most amazing view. We had lunch at a restaurant that looked out across the volcano and the land near by, the pictures don't do it justice but it was awesome! On route to the main attractions we stopped and looked at some temples and rice paddies (very impressive) but we chose not to spend too long at these. The shopping in Bali is brilliant! We spent awhile walking round the markets and shops admiring the beautiful clothes. Unlike the other countries where you have people giving it 'hey lady' the Balinese are really friendly and don't push you at all. We bought some lovely things but then were left with the dilemma of getting it all in our bags =s Dani managed to get most of hers in but Sam decided to leave a few things that she hadn't worn for awhile behind. A lady at our hotel worked by the pool as a masseuse and after speaking to her and another lady who was travelling but had spent time with their family, decided that we would leave our things with her. She lived in a single room with her two teenage children, which only had one mattress. She earned money by giving massages that cost less than 3 pound, however she had to pay the hotel 30% of whatever she earned, so some days she would make very little if anything. When we gave the bag of clothes to her she was so grateful giving us big hugs and thanking us excessively, we felt awful that someone could be so grateful for our cast offs, but also really happy they are going somewhere they are needed. We've spent the last 3 months in South-East Asia and have had an amazing time! When we first arrived in Bangkok we wondered what we'd gotten ourselves into, we were eating croissants and jam because we were cautious of the food, now we eat street food! The countries are all so similar in the sense of poverty, but also very different from each other with their uniqueness. We're sad to leave, but we've both said that we will definitely be back... We now start the next part of our trip, Australia =)
