Woke at 7 for the ferry, and then caught the afternoon bus which took 5 hours to KL. Was a pretty long day, but made a slightly more interesting by a dutch guy sitting next to me, talking to me about travelling and budgets etc. Its funny how everyone travels differently, I always try to buy the cheapest accommodation or share with someone etc to keep costs down, and general food I usually take the cheapest street food, or little local restaurant, I have found the food is usually better than the proper restaurants too. But the dutch guy stays in backpackers but takes the most expensive rooms and just the way he does everything he just spends so much more.It sounds silly but I found this most unattractive, I find it fun to try and get the cheapest things, its like a game, and it allows you to travel further, and treat yourself to trips, see more places, and most of all you immerse yourself in the culture, much more than you would eating western food in fancy restaurants, and staying in hotels where the staff arent friendly. Anyway rant over.

When we arrived, he took a taxi, and I took a train for 1.70 ringgit, 40p, which dropped me right next to the hostel I had been recommended by other travellers, and I walked through china town. I had a good feeling straight away about the city, there were lots of little stalls selling amazing smelling food and people bussling around. I found the hostel 'backpackers, travellers inn' quickly and they luckily had a bed for me in a dorm, for 12ringgit pn (2pound 40p). The hostel was basic but good and friendly staff, and a cool rooftop bar. I met an aussie girl Beck who came out for dinner with me, we found this amazing Nasi campur (kindof help yourself buffet and pay for each individual thing). The following day we walked around the city, saw the huge Petronas towers, and the sky tower, we walked through little india with millions of people selling all different types of fabric, we ate some amazing Indian food in the central markets, and went to the main info centre and got some information on general travel in Malaysia. We were looking for the cinema as it was really cheap, and on the way we found a place which looks just like Trafalgar sq in London, and even had a Debenhams and Zara. We then saw kung fu panda 2 at the cinema, then i walked out and happened to stumble upon a 800m rollercoaster that goes 80km per hour INSIDE A SHOPPING MALL (nr Times Square) And a huge theme park!!! Couldn't believe it! We happily paid 38 ringgit and went on all the rides, had the best afternoon! (Quite embarrassed to say I thought this was cooler than the petronas towers :p).

Didn't do much today apart from walk around the city in the scorching heat, looked in Debenhams which was a bit rubbish. Not a big fan of the big cities, the only reason I really like KL is because of the small town feel in China town where I stay, where all the other backpackers stay too.

I have just come in, its 3am here now on my Birthday. I went to a reggae bar for a beer, and made some new friends, an aussie guy, and three english girls, and they all bought me B'day drinks and then we met the owner of the bar who bought us more drinks! The conversation ranged from politics, war, education, growing up, parenting, teaching, wealth, geography, biology! It was pretty in depth stuff! The girls fly to Borneo on the same day as me on the 28th Jun, which is a coincidence!!

On my Birthday I decided to have a really chilled out day and treat myself to a foot massage, shoulder, neck and head massage, a manicure and pedicure for the total price of… drum roll 30 pounds! And I could have got it a lot cheaper but I wanted to go to a really posh spa and really relax. In travelling terms that's quite a lot of money to spend but I think it was worth it, and the little lady doing my nails gave me 10%Birthday discount! Had a lovely day, and then had a great skype chat with Mum, followed by an amazing lamb masala with Roti Tisu (a really thin sweet/ salty pancake in a cone shape with sugar and syrup) was an amazing day!
