We arrived at Sydney about 9am and caught a train to our hostel in Kings Cross. The hostel was probably the best place we have stayed so far, we got a 3 bed dorm, the kitchen was good and everybody was friendly. Our room mate turned up about 10 that night, a Canadian girl called Amber- possibly the loudest, craziest and friendliest person we have ever met and always happy- even with a severe hangover! Unfortunately the first day or so Dani wasn't well so we had to make a visit to the doctor who gave her some strong painkillers- which practically knocked her out- and antibiotics. Because of this our first day was spent doing washing and reading on the roof terrace in the hostel while Dani got some rest.
The next day we walked into the city, via Hyde Park and St Marys Cathedral and went out seeing the sites in Sydney, the weather was lovely blue sky's and hot. We visited the amazing Opera House and Harbour Bridge and got the tourists "choo-choo" train round the Botanic Gardens where we were told some of Sydney's history. We strolled around the shops after some lunch and then took advantage of the good weather and walked the 20mins back to the hostel. Once we'd got back, chilled out on the roof terrace again and had dinner, I was persueded by Amber to go out to celebrate her last night in Australia... and i somehow managed to come back quite drunk!
The morning brought a major hangover but seeing as it was our last day we decided to get a train to Bondi Beach for the day. The weather was beautiful as we chilled out on the beach, watching the surfers out at sea and Dani trying to spot any lifeguards from Bondi Rescue for her mum!! We said goodbye to Amber and she imparted some wisdom (and chocolate) to us and left. The next day was our last, we checked out at 10 and were confined to checking our emails and surfing the net as it poured down outside- and after a small diversion (Dani got us lost) we found the coach station and boarded our night bus to Surfers Paradise.
