Sorry the pictures were in no apparent order-this website randomly picks which order they should go in! grrr- have now updated the last two albums so that they are less confusing :)

So Durban wasn't very exciting really- bit dodgey and not that pleasant. The first day we spent catching up with washing and doing internet things. The next day we decided to see what Durban had to offer us (not much!) and headed to a suburb called Morningside which we had been told was pretty and nice. It turned out to be really REALLY quiet and not a lot there so we headed to the beach (also not that nice!). Dan got to watch some football though- Liverpool Vs Chelsea (woo). Our final day in durban was spent in Ushaka aquarium whihc was good- all set in a huge 'shipwreck'. In the evening we had our dinner in the ship's restaraunt where one wall was a fishtank. Our table was right nxt to it and we got to watch sharks whilst we ate!

Off to Drakensburg the next day and away from South Africa's coast. Our room (the 'honeymoon suite' apparently, although you could have fooled us!) overlooked beautiful mountains and huge plains. We hired some mountain bikes and went for a ride in the afternoon but the paths were worn away and we ended up following cow tracks to get back! Their map was rubbish! In the evening we met a dutch couple- Tom and Renee (sorry if we spelt that wrong) who we hung out with for the next couple of days.

The next day we joined a tour up to Sentinal's peak in the Amphitheatre. the tour bus took us to 2500m and then we climbed the other 600m. Amazing views all around- and Philippa had her phone interview for Oxford uni half way up! Had to climb up a really steep gorge- Philippa nearly died (struggling greatly with the thin air!) but we made it to the top in time for lunch with a sheer 1km drop in front of us! Then we walked round to the middle of the Amphitheatre and we got to see the 2nd highest waterfall in the world- spectacular. Got some photos really close to the edge and scared ourselves a bit, then started our hike down again. The way down was only by two very scary metal chain ladders- one 25m and the other 15m down a cliff face- no ropes! Daniel did not enjoy this very much! By the time we were down it was thundering and lightening which was an amazing experience half way up a mountain and we got a good view of 'proper africa rain' on the plains.

The next we opted out of the trip to Lesotho (another sort of township tour) and had a day in the sun instead. It was so hot- in and out of the pool and hammock at the backpackers.

Now we've made our way to Johannesburg (via a very very long and hot bus journey!) and spent today shopping for supplies for Kruger- for which we leave tomorrow on a six day tour.

We'll update you when we get back to Jo'burg- hopefully with some good pics of the big 5!
