Hi everyone,
Just spent 6 days in Kruger National Park and had a really great time. As you can see from our photos we saw pretty much all the animals except a Leopard in the wild (but we did see one when we visited a rehabilitation centre). The first day we were there was over 40 degrees in the shade and then we got to see an awesome thunderstorm at night- never seen lightening like it! That seemed to be the start of the rainy season (the rains had been overdue by about two months so everything was very dry and very very gratfeul for the rain!) The second day was utterly freezing! The change between the two days was unbelievable! We were wrapped up in blankets all day in the truck. The next day we went to a rehabilitation centre (Moholoholo) and got up close and personal to a lot of endangered/rescued animals. The baby Rhino were the best- so so cute! The final day in Kruger was average temperature and a quiet day on the animal front until we saw two Cheetah! Our guide had only ever seen three in eight years- and we saw two in the space of about half an hour! Very exciting. Our last day started early with a bushwalk with our great guide, Toby. Interesting learning how to track the different animals and birds (and learn about their poos!)
Now we're back in Jo'burg and will leave for New Zealand on Monday. One month disappeared very quickly but it has been brilliant. Wish us (Philippa) luck with the LONG flight!
