Dan and Lu's Travels
Drove around 350km yesterday and stopped at a rest area on the site of a petrol station. Was quite surreal, we made a meal of pasta and sauce and fried bbq chicken skewers, all while sat on a gas station forecourt virtually!
Drove a few kms south west of there to Bowling Green NP. We saw baby kangaroos everywhere, hopping around, eating grass ad always lookign around inquisitively. They are quite fascinating. These were the first kangaroos we'd seen up close (and not dead on the side of the road) in Oz.
Walked to Alligator Creek, which was gorgeous; really serene. We then followed the creek up a few kms to where the water was gushing between the huge boulders we had to clamber across.
These places are the reason why having your own transport is so brilliant. We would have never got here otherwise.
In the afternoon we drove to Townsville, which is the 3rd largest city in Queensland. Its got a nice feel to it and a even nicer ice creamery! Had a huge, delicious ice cream each before going to another rest area. Another petrol station, just outside the centre. This one was huge, with tens of trucks and lorries parked at the back. I don't know what it is but I've always felt there's something comforting about these huge petrol stations that open 24 hours....
