Dan and Claire go worldwide
So from the jungles of Peru, we headed to the border of Bolivia to the absolutley beautiful Lake Titicaca, the highest navigatable lake in the world. We headed off on a tour for two days to some of the remote islands and cultures that live on its shores.
The first stop was the Uros floating islands, which are what they sound like, floating islands made of reeds! The next island was Amantani, where we were to stay the night with a local family. On arrival we were greeted by our 'surrogate'mother Yeni, who took us to her home....and what a home! A few walls, no electricity, a smoke blackened kitchen with no windows and a'toilet'down a path somewhere in the garden! Our room was nice but basic, but a very humbling experience. After a day of Dan playing football 3500km above sea level with other travellers and the local children and trekking up a huge hill to see the sunset, we headed out in the evening to the local discoteque! Probably one of the most surreal experiences of our travels so far! Yeni dressed us up in the local geer, ponchos, hats, shawls, the lot and we headed in pitch darkness up the hill, stumbling everywhere to the party! We arrived to the local band playing flutes and stuff, and proceeded to be literally swung around by the locals! They are crazy, was so funny!! It was our version of a night out for our birthdays, Peruvian Style!!
The next day we headed to our last island stop, Taquille island, before heading home to civilisation and our first Chinese Peruvian style, and a well deserved one for Claires birthday meal (dont worry normans, I didnt miss out on the tradition!), and it was yummy, but no Willingham Chinese!
Much love xxx
