Dan and Claire go worldwide
After a 30 hour hike from northern Chile, we arrived in Mendoza in West Argentina, a town built at the foot of the Andes mountains.
We were soooo excited to be going back to Argentina after loving our first experience there in Buenos Aires, and we were not disapponted the second time around!! It was like a mini version of BA, but not as hectic, but still with wonderful food and drink, amazing sights and great shopping!! There was so much to see and do, and we loved every minute of being back in what has turned out to be our favourite country that we have visited. The people are so friendly, and the cities really atmospheric and relaxed. its a hard counrty not to fall on love with!
We arrived just before the easter weekend, which is a really big deal in argentina, so we were in for a good weekend! Our first day was spent around the shopping malls, wishing we could take everything home with us as it is sooooooo cheap! in the evening, we had a true argentine bbq with lots of steak (the first of many, we ate it practically every day!). The next couple of days were spent around the town and the many beautiful plazas, and the HUGE st. martins park. It was amazing, not like a park in england, and it was such a lovely day, with all the families together for easter sunday...it made us miss you guys at home!! And dont worry, we had our easter eggs too!!
Other highlights of our time in Mendoza was a bike ride around the winerys in the countryside outside Mendoza! In the morning we hopped on a short bus ride into the country and hired bicycles and proceeded to cycle around all the winerys we could find for some free wine tasting!! and it was really good wine!! We found an olive oil place, and a chocolate and liquor factory on the way too, and armed with a box of fresh homemade chocolates, we were on our way!! We ended up cycling about 24 km throughout the day, learning how they make the wine, looking around the old winery museums, and it was such a brilliant day, with fantastic weather.
Before we left we couldnt resist a bit of adventure sport. so we opted for paragliding off the Andes mountain range (dont worry, the much lower level ones!) over the city of Mendoza...it was great, really relaxing floating like a bird. The view was stunning!! I ran off the mountain first with no hitch, but Dan had to wait an hour and a half with several false starts to catch the right wind!! he got there in the end though!!
So after almost a week, we were once again very sad to leave, but with a flight to catch to OZ only a couple of days away, we dragged ourselves away....but we will definetly be back. We have unfinished business!
