Alice Springs & Uluru (Ayres Rock) Trip:
In Alice springs we did a 3 day 2 night outback camping trip of Uluru (Ayres Rock), The Olgas and Kings Canyon. This was great and seeing Uluru at sunrise and sunset was amazing, the rock actually changes to loads of different shades of red when the sun hits it at different angles. Camping under the stars in the outback was great and the amount of stars was unbelievable. Becky put on a very brave face and tried to forget how many poisonous snakes were in the area, with a little help from Dan having to check her swag every night! We did a 3 hour walk around Uluru and after that we can officially say that Australian flies are the worst in the world!! At least in England you hit a fly and it leaves you alone; not in oz they seem to choose a human partner for life!! Not good, but nothing a really attractive fly net didn't sort out! The Olgas were incredible too, but the highlight for us was Kings Canyon and it was amazing and incredible to think it was under water millions of years ago and you can still see the marks of the sea bed on some of the rocks. We had a big bonfire on our last night and had a few beers with the group, as you do! After the tour we spent a couple more days in Alice Springs and sampled a few $10 jugs of Tooheys New just to make sure that they tasted ok for the cheap price! We think they were ok! We also did a few hours volunteer work to help out the local supermarket pack up and ship out their donated clothes and accessories for the Bush Fire victims in Victoria. This was great to help as so many people died or lost everything so it was nice to be able to contribute if only for a few hours. Our next stop was Cairns via Uluru AGAIN, this time from the sky!!
