After a good sleep we ate, grabbed some sandwiches & wandered down to the boat to stow our bags. Thankfully there were 2 boats today & an old Aussie guy was directing all the morons onto the other boat. As a result we were in for a peaceful boat ride, just as most of us had planned. It was another beautiful trip but this time the peace just added to the experience. Nothing but the soft chatter of the passengers & the hum of the diesel engine to be heard all day as we watched the landscape slide by. It was an uneventful trip but that didn't matter, we could just enjoy the experience. We arrived at Luang Prabang about 5pm. Well when I say Luang Prabang I mean 10 km's down the road, not in the town as advertised. We all staged a protest & sat on the boat but after 10 mins realized it was pointless. Everyone grabbed their bags & climbed the 50 metres to the top of the bank. Here everyone had to pay 20,000 Kip to get a Tuk Tuk into town. Just a way to get more money out of the tourists. Anyhow we couldn't walk so paid the money & were taken to our guesthouse. We have another lovely place to stay for the next 3 nights & the best thing is that it has a soft bed. The last few nights our mattresses have been the equivalent of a piece of wood. We freshened up & as we headed out the darkness had reached us & the rain had begun. We wandered down the main street & had a bit of a browse through the night market. We then headed to the riverfront where we had dinner before returning home. We are pretty happy to be spending a few days here. The town is just large enough to have things going on & has an amazing feel. It's laid back & friendly & feels different to Thailand. The weather has gotten cooler, but still warm enough. So we'll tackle the town tomorrow & see just what it has to offer.
