Alright guys, well for the first time i'm a bit behind with my updates!! After my Everglades trip I spent 2 separate hours trying to put an update on with all the details of the three days but it failed both times!! Just a tad annoying!! But obviously I made it back ok and it was an immense few days. Turns out I had nothing to worry about in the end as no crocs live in that part of the glades but we were told that "the only thing you may have to worry about is the sharks!!!" Sharks? in a river? Apparently so! They are pretty rare tho but nontheless lets just say that I was watching the water VERY closely!! It was an amazing few days with gorgeous weather and stunning scenery. The water is so still and black (from the natural tannins off the trees) that it acts as a perfect mirror for the flora and fauna above! After trying this update twice already I cant really be bothered to write it all out AGAIN, so will keep it pretty brief. The first day we did a small 6 km return paddle to a kink bridge and was a proper taster for the scenery to come. Then we had to paddle about 3km more upto our campsite at Harrys Hut. The highlight of the day tho was the Cootharaba lake. You come round a tight corner of the river and then bang, there it is! Absolutely stunning. It felt like we had been warped into the Lord of the Rings for the first few minutes and really felt like David Attenborough, cruising across this spectacular lake taking in all the wildlife and the rolling green hills beyond! Pretty special moment indeed. It was a bird watchers paradise aswell with tonnes of waterborne birds of all shapes and sizes. The highlights were the huge pelicans and the eagle/falcon like things skimming the water for their dinner. Camping was real fun but bloody freezing at night! Just like the camel safari in the Indian desert, roasting by day and artic by night!! All good fun tho!! The second day was the big one and we paddled and walked over 25km in the end!! Fairly tough going in the heat! The walk took us upto a huge sand blow with stunning views of the ocean on one side and the lush green 'glades on the other, a real taster for Fraser Island. The final day we were up early to watch the sunrise and the steam magically evaporate off the waters surface then had to pack up and canoe all the way back to our pick up point. So yeah it was quality fun and yet another "must do before you die" box enjoyably ticked off my list!! Oh, its a tough life but someones gotta do it I guess! haha. After that I stayed around Noosa for a few days and chilled on the beach catching some UVs most of the time but on Monday I caught the free bus out to Austarlia Zoo, the home of the legend, Steve Irwin!! Crikey, it was a good day! watched the crocs and tiger shows in the impressive Crocoseum and got to feed kangaroos and koalas which was pretty sweet!! A really enjoyable day for us all! Although unfortunately I didnt get to meet the man himself. :-( Since then I have moved onto Rainbow beach which I shall detail in my next update. Hope alls good with you all, Dan
