it's a holiday here. EVERYTHING is closed! in Canada everything would be open. even mcdonalds AND the supermarkets are closed! but more on that later..let's talk last sunday.
all excited i awoke ready to start by going to the subico market. this required a train ride. more specifically stop #3 on the fremantle line. there is 2 types of tickets one can buy..standard and concession. the ticket machine has no details on what the diff is (i found out today but thats for another days tales). after you select the ticket type you need to figure out what zone your travelling to. subico is zone 1. price for my ticket (concession): 90 cents. good for 2 hours! train was pretty nice. quick, efficiant and quiet. got to subico/got a bit lost (of course) and eventually found the market. i walked in and was a bit dismayed on the size of it. not very big. but oh the selection of fruit/veg! i wish i had that at home (way cheaper than the farmers markets). was there for about half an hour /picked up some delicious bakery items. next stop on my agenda was the long awaited kings park. got off in west perth and started walking. up hills. 8 minutes later while on a pretty steady course i notice the air ahead looked a little strange. realizing just in time i ducked under a building awning just in time to avoid the torrential downpour headed my way. thinking it may be a quick shower, i decided to wait it out. half an hour later i started thinking that maybe the plans would have to change to shopping. but what to do? i was trapped in the middle of nowhere under an awning. pulling out my trusty map, i found a bus stop (free) nearby and hoofed it as fast as i could. still got soaked but the bus was nice. got off in the city center where i figured i might as well try to find harbour town (outlet mall). the map said it was on the free bus route so i settled down to wait. restless after 10 minutes(and frickin cold!) i started walking. always the wrong choice. 2 minutes later the bus passed by. fianlly arriving at the mall (another open mall- these aussies like to have everything in the open whenever they can) i headed to the washroom to dry off. then it was time to shop! did very good. only spend $48 on a pair of shoes at the adidas store. they're a very appealing 70's style-in a ugly way. hahaha. then back to the city center to see if i could get a deal on requested item. got a deal. also picked up a duffle bag for purchased items on the way home. afterwards, it being late (and that i had a 7am tour pickup the next day) i headed back to my awesome hostel. watched a bit of telly(dr.who-may have to download an episode or 2 as it was seriously cheesy but still higly entertaining). and went to bed. thus ends a great sunday of last.
