With well laid plans for an early start to the day as we have only allowed one full day (two nights) in Zagreb, we sort of slept in and didn't really hit the road until about 9.30am.
True to our first impression, Zagreb has a very friendly feel about it. We stopped in the heart of what appears to be the shopping / tourist area for breakfast, finding a great place called "My Way", a Sinatra inspired café. Lauren finally found French Toast for breakfast, apparently better than Mum's!
We wandered Uptown, taking the funicular railway up to a curiously named "Museum of Broken Relationships"… Intrigued, we wandered in. MBR is a collection of memorabilia sent to the museum after a relationship has broken down. Mementos as seemingly insignificant as a peg that remained on the clothes line when she left in the middle of the night, another, the axe he used to chop up the furniture she left behind, one piece at a time, every day, while she went on a 2 week holiday with her lover…
The donated items were all important to the individuals and supposedly cathartic in the donating. The collection has twice toured the world !
We also toured through a museum dedicated to the defence of Dubrovnic from the Serbian / Montenegrin attacks in 1991 - 95 and onto the very impressive Zagreb Cathedral. A little unassuming from the outside, apart from its twin spires, but the interior is rich and beautifully maintained.
Heading home for a Skype call with Mum and Dean, we also confirmed the next day's transfer arrangements and accommodation.
Lauren had read about a "Museum of Illusions", which we decided to check out for a giggle before dinner. The extent of night time activities in Europe has never really struck me before, most probably because of the time of the year. For instance, this little place was open from 10.00am through to 10.00pm, the kitchens in most of the restaurants stay open to well past midnight, as do the little ice cream vendor stalls we have grown to enjoy. Even the news stands that sell tram tickets and Lotto are open until midnight… A great contrast to home, which I can only assume would be a negative to travellers. Can you imagine being used to going out for dinner in your home city of Split, with its 200k residents, at 11.00pm and then landing in Perth, only to find most restaurants stop taking orders around 8.00pm… Hey, don't even think about getting dinner out on a Monday night !
We played with some mind challenging games and illusions for a couple of hours before dinner in the main Piazza, meeting a lovely Canadian couple, their Daughter and little Biewer Terrier named Suzy (cutest thing on the planet). They had just moved to Zagreb from Tuscany. Apparently, dogs can travel from one country to another without any sort of quarantine requirements.
Fairly smoked from the day, we were home about 1.30am.

Leanne Innes What a beautiful city, sounds like you had fun at the Museum of Illusions Lauren, and it looks like I'm going to have to lift my game on the French Toast . Keep enjoying.
