Bidding a fond farewell to Zagreb as we really did enjoy the feel of this city. There doesn't appear much to discover from a tourist perspective, but it does have a friendly welcoming appeal. Both Lauren and I agree it would be a great place to chill for a week or two, alternatively, its central position would make it a good base from which to explore the surrounding countries.

Heading to Split on a one way transfer, we also included a guided tour through the Plitvice Lakes National Park. These incredibly clear lakes and waterfalls are fed by streams and underground water courses heavy in calcium carbonate from the limestone base. Apparently this gives them their clarity and unique emerald blue appearance. It was an easy 4km tramp through well constructed path ways protecting the bio-habitat of the area from the 1m+ visitors per year.

Arriving in Split about 7.30pm, we checked in to our overnight accommodation and headed out about 10.00pm. The City of Split dates to the 2nd Century. I think this place would have seen some serious history! The "Old" Split is based around a palace built for the Roman Emperor Diocles around 300AD. It is incredibly well preserved in many places, although, like so many Roman and Greek palaces and temples of the era, the rise of Christianity has taken its toll, laying waste to the magnificent architecture.

After a sumptuous rack of lamb for Dad and some spinach and feta gnocchi for Lauren we were home by midnight.
