I was lucky enough to make two trips to Porto during my month stay at the gspot.
The first trip I went with Nicole! We caught an afternoon train and were met at the station by a gorgeous Portuguese woman who nicci had met earlier in her trip. I've never seen such amazing hospitality. Her and her sad picked us up, she wine and dined us on more than one occasion showing us portos best restaurants and dishes. We stayed at her beautiful home, ate a traditional lunch at her lovely grandmas house! It was so nice to spend time with a family again and it made me miss mine so much!
Jo took nicci and I to her friends salon where we were pampered and got our hair done. I went red! Something I've wanted to do a while and now love, gives me more of a style. We went to some stables and played around with fowls, it was so nice to get into the Portuguese country side. I feel truly blessed to have been given that experience and now some new friends!
The second trip to Porto was due to my stupidity. I missed a train trip to San Sebastián and consequently missed my flight to London. So I booked another and the cheapest being a few days later from Porto became the only option! I had met a boy who had wanted to see Porto and because the hostel was shutting down he and I decided to go together. We spent a few days in Porto exploring the city in more touristy way. I saw the sights, we went to the movies and out to dinner, we ate great tapas and a francesina that had been recommended to us by locals. We walked to a winery for a free tour but were turned a way because it was lunch and siesta time (typical for Spain and Portugal). One sight I loved in Porto was the huge Christmas tree made of fairy lights, and the swings with fairy lights above them!
I really fell in love with Porto, it had a magical bleakness about it.
