Today I'm leaving Florence heading to Cinque Terre. Florence is a beautiful city, there's not much to see in terms of sites but it's nice to walk around and see a traditional Italian city. There are a lot of art galleries and museums, I wasn't very interested in seeing them do steered clear. However I got to see a lot of famous Florence statues made by important artists of the time. The real david statue is in Florence I only saw the fake one which is found out the front of the town hall where the real one stood for many years after it was built.
My first night in Florence we went on a night tour and watched a leather workshop, Florence is famous for its leather products. Then we went out for a traditional Italian dinner which means entree, then pasta, then a main and then dessert. I had a really good group for Florence and on this first night we went to a night club and had a few two many 2 little jugs of cocktail. We couldn't find much night life on a Sunday in Florence but the group of us just roamed the streets and ended up having a really good night!
Next day we walked the town, saw the churches and the famous gold bridge, which was the only bridge hitler didn't have bombed when he invaded! It also used to have butches shops all along the bridge but the lord at the time didn't like the smell so he moved them out and replaced them with jewelry shops hence the name gold bridge. It's really cool to. Walk across, it's just like a normal street but across water.
That night we went to aperitivo, this is a thing Italians do after work before dinner. You go to a cocktail bar and by a cocktail which then gives you access to all you can eat. Most places have just simple antipasto, but some are full meals. So we had a full buffet and expensive cocktail for 8 euro each. It works I Italy because the locals dont eat much. But tourists, and mainly Aussies take full advantage of the cheap meal. It defiantly would work in Australia!
The next day we too a train to the coast line, everyone was in need of some salt water and a day at the beach. Because I had spent two months I Rimini I knew what to expect of the Italian beaches. It was packed, full of umbrellas that cost too much to rent , was dirty and you get hounded by illegal immigrants trying to sell useless toys or fake handbags. It made us all appreciate the Aussie beaches. We had a really good day though! Went out for lunch, then headed back to Florence and went out for another aperitivo dinner! After eating too much we went back to the hostel bar to watch the Olympics.
Today I'm on the bus to cinque terre. We had a photo stop in Pisa to get some cliche photos! It was really cool to see and much more impressive in person! Nearly at cinque now! I'm so excited to see it, it's meant to be stunning and a good break from travel.
