We arrived in Paris on Tuesday afternoon after a rough travel day from Venice. We arrived there in a rainstorm, and we left there in a rainstorm.... Our airport experience was miserable, and we were tired and cranky by the time we finally arrived at our Paris apartment around 5pm. That night, we ended up eating just down the street from our apartment and calling it an early night.
Our second day in Paris was much better! We slept in late, and then headed out for a full day of seeing the sights. We visited the Champs Elysees and had lunch at McDonalds (my idea). Then we headed out to Sacre Coeur, a church on the highest hilltop in Paris. It was beautiful up there! After that we took the Metro and the RER train (which we got a little lost on) down to the Eiffel Tower area, and walked all around. We had dinner at a great restaurant near the Tower that was recommended in one of our guidebooks.
Today we had planned to visit Versailles, but there's a transportation worker strike that delayed the opening this morning. So instead we headed out for some more sightseeing, and visited Ile de la Cite, Notre Dame, and the Latin Quarter. Then we hopped on a Batobus for a cruise on the Seine. We got off the river bus near The Louvre, and walked around the lawn area, checked out the fountains, and had a nice rest on the grass. We also walked through the Jardin de Tuilleries down to Place de la Concorde. Then we caught the Metro back to our apartment.
Our apartment here is in the most amazing neighborhood! We haven't uploaded pictures or video of the Montorgueil area yet, but we will. It's full of tiny shops, like cheese shops, bakeries, fish markets, patisseries, and cafes. Perfect Paris!
