or it could be the plague, or maybe scurvy. Have been feeling a tad under the weather the last few days and following a visit to the local museum my symptoms seemed eerily familiar to some of those stories!
Actually it can't be scurvy as otherwise my gums would be bleeding, old sores re-opening, previously healed broken bones would be re-breaking plus my skin would be bloating up as it turned black and blue. (Thanks heaps - British Captain Cook documentary).
After deciding to man up - we performed a mini tour of cooktown. This is our northern most leg of the trip and after a quick catch-up with another of Dad's old army mates (yes they are everywhere. this one he hadn't seen since the 1960s!) we did a mini tour of the town.
It's small, remote, windy, but had a fantastic walk around town with loads of historic spots, Cooks first landing, steps from when the Queen visited (not that royal looking, plus heaps of historical stuff).
Their museum was pretty impressive, lots of interesting stuff from the old days including just enough old dentistry stuff to be creepy. Have a look at the pics and you will see what I mean! Only here for 2 nights - which is probably just enough time.
This ends the northern leg of the journey. We head back south tomorrow (to Atherton in the tablelands) before following the lead of dad's favourite band (Pet Shop Boys) to 'Go West'.
I'll make a prediction - we will have clear blue skies and cold nights for the next week!
