Slovenia
Crossing out of Italy into Slovenia was interesting as the border consisted of no one except a sign that said welcome to Slovenia and the left overs of the previous official border.
Our first opinions of Slovenia were
· Wow it is absolutely stunning; very green, lots of mountains and blue rivers running from glacial melt.
· There are bears there as we saw a warning sign (news to us)
· Diesel was a lot cheaper then Italy which made us smile and the petrol stations actually accepted foreign bank cards.
We decided to pull off at the first campsite we found which was called Camp Villi and it was right next to the blue river and we pulled the car up next to a small stream and were surrounded by Horny ducks. I learnt alot about how ducks shag in those next few hours and it's a very rough process.
Both Jonny and I went down to the river and paddled but that's as far as it went the water was freezing it actually made your feet hurt, so instead we had a rock throwing competition.
Next day we packed up and headed for the north of Triglaski national park and the first stop was a lovely little town called Bovec on the Soca river. It is here were you can get up to lots of cool stuff
White water rafting
Canyoning
Kayaking
Biking
Paragliding ect
So I have decided I am going to organise a week away in Slovenia hire out an apartment and spend the week finding new ways to try and kill one self ANY ONE INTERESTED
We bought the yummiest strawberries and cherries for supper cheap here and then back in the car and drove a short distance before pulling off to have lunch by the side of the Soca river.
After beautiful waterfalls and deep gorges we decided to head over the mountains to the outside of the national part and found a campsite in a small town called Kranjska Gora.
The campsite was called Eco Camping and was a way down a dirt track so we had out suspicions but we were pleasantly surprised it was a lovely spot in the middle of the trees with raindeer and horses and there was just 3 couples there.
Turns out Kranjska Gora is a little ski town and looks like a nice spot for a ski holiday but during the summer the locals do a lot of eating pizza and drinking beer (or maybe we should go back in the summer time).
The next morning we packed up camp and made for Lake Bled which was just a short drive. The Slovenian people are supper friendly most speak English very well as Slovene is such a small language and the drivers are friendly to so no one tried to kill us.
Lake Bled is amazing and there is a campsite right on the lake with great facilities and reasonable price so we set up home and the hammock and then went for a 6 hour walk round the lake and a lovely refreshing dip in the lake late evening.
Interesting fact about Slovenia is that it is compulasory to drive with your headlights on all the time (any ideas why other then the guy who made the rule owns a car light bulb shop).
Leaving Lake Bled we made for Libjiana the capital of Slovenia but it was not very pretty , very busy and could not find any parking so we drove through and out the other side into the country. Stopped for lunch on the side of the road over looking the Adriatic coast but we were stood in Slovenia looking into Itally (Triest) as Slovenia only has a very small section of coastline.
We decided as it was only an hours drive to the coast to keep going and stop at Piran a small Slovenian coastal town on the coast.
The day got interesting from here…..
We arrived at Piran to find it was a beautiful small cove on the coast but the campsite was extreamly over crowded and then the next 4 we tried were either closed or grotty so after an hour driving around we decided on a wim to try one 12 miles away but this meant crossing the border into Croatia a lot sooner then planned.
The Croatian/Slovenian border was the first time we had out passpirts checked since leaving the UK. We then realised we knew nothing of the Croatian driving rules and we had no money as Croatia use the Kuna not the Euro.
Eventually we found the campsite and luckily it looked lovely so we walked into reception to ask for just one night while we sort ourselves out.
The receptionist said no problem but you do know this is a nudist camp so Jonny and I looked at each other and decided the world was not ready for our Antarctic white bodies so back in the car it was.
20 minutes later we found another campsite it was on a main road and did not look pretty but the bathrooms were clean and by now that was all that mattered and then the skies opened and it lashed it down so yes we set up camp in the rain and sat out drinking a cup of soup and laughing about how it never rains it pours.
SO THAT'S US OUT OF SLOVENIA AND WE ARE NOW CURRENTLY IN CROATIA AND DESPITE A FUNNY START IT IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING SO MY NEXT UPDATE WILL BE OUR ADVENTURES IN CROATIA
HOPE YOU ARE ALL WELL

Kirk Getting into even more interesting territory now. Super Jealous, enjoy!!
Dave Slovenia sounded superb, you've made us think that next year some time we should take our two kids to that river sports adventure nr Bovec (maybe with less duck watching). Great Blog, have a great time in Croatia
Betty Very enjoyable and easy to watch. Enjoyed the sceenry and pieces to camera (but please don't do full circle pans during these you run the risk of making your audience dizzy/queasy!). Good mix of shots and scenes. Look forward to the next videos of the series!
