Croatia
Where beer is cheaper then orange juice, you get done for speeding on an open country road, woman like to tan topless, it is hot hot hot and wow what a stunning country.
After an entertaining start to Croatia and being woken by a busy rod and grass strimmers we decided to move on. We only drove an hour down the road and found a lovelt path by the sea so we decided to take a walk along the coast
FKK
Did not know what this abbreviation meant till arriving in Croatia and we walked onto a lovely beack saw the letters FKK painted on the rocks and turned round to see that everyone was nacked.
Porec
A little further down the coast we stopped and had some lunch picnic style by the sea and then took a long walk into the town and looked round a tiny aquarium as I was keen to see some marine animals again. If I had waited a bit I could have seen them in the sea through a snorkel and mask and the visibility off the Adriatic coast is very good.
Rovinj
Second night in Croatia and after a swim in the sea we walkd into town. Lovely cobled streets and a lovely cocktail bar where you sit on cushions on the rocks and there is lights under the sea to light it up and relaxing music. All very amazing except the bill 750 Kuna about £8 a cocktail so we moved on to the next cocktail bar.
The world is definitely a small place as we ended up camped next to Barbara and David from the UK near Stratford upon Avon this might not seem odd but its not often you see a GB number plate out here.
We then set off a little further down the coast and camped just 3km outside the town of Pula.
Pula
Pula was only just over an hour drive from Rovinj but the first time I used my horn in anger which I think was justified as someone pulled out and we nearly died…..
Camp spot right next to the sea as in we could hear the lapping of the waves and 5m from the tent we could jump in and snorkel round the rocks. Needless to stay Jonny hung the hammock and we spent 3 days there.
After some quality time by the coast we decided to make the drive (slightly out of our way and a bit north) to Zagreb which is Croatias capital.
Lovran
On the way up to Zagreb we stopped at a small town called Lovran and walked along the sea front for a few hours and then had lunch on the pier we had parked the car on by the sea. We then hit the road for Zagreb and wow Croatia is a beautiful country to drive through.
Zagreb
Found a campsite just outside of Zagreb in Lucko and at first glance it looked like it was behind a truckers yard but on closer inspection is was actually not bad and would do for one night so we could see the town.
We walked into Lucko and found a small bar and had a beer with the locals as this was def not a tourist spot.
Next day we caught the 9.10 bus into Zagreb with our walking shoes on and a map ready to explore the town.
· Museum of broke relationships (we were just curious but came out thoroughly depressed)
· St Marks square (beautiful church with tiled roof)
· Chapel in a tunnel on a road
· Cathedral
· Dolac market place which sells millions of Strawberries and for vey cheap, oh and small oranges which I assumed were exotic fruit till I bit into them and my taste buds nearly exploded
· Lunch in the park
· Saw horseman and guards in action
· Had a beer on the main café street and yet again orange juice more expensive then beer
After 6 hours of exploring we caught the bus back to the car packed up and made for the south a little to the Plitvicka national park. Pitched the tent on a hillside in the country (stunning) and we had a full moon to enjoy our dinner to.
Split
You know life is good when you are woken by the sunshine on your face as it is to warm to zip the tent windows closed.
So as we were up early we packed up and hit the road for Split (back to the coast as both of us tend to be drawn to water).
Travelling down the country road it was stunning very few cars, lovely scenery and then oh no I think I have just been pulled over by the Croatian Police.
It turned out that the spped limit on those roads are 80 km which I knew but the small 200m section where the police was stood the speed limit was reduced to 60 km/h so as I passed at 88km/h I was hit with a great 500 Kuna fine which is about 60 Pounds and no charm or short skirt would persuade this police officer otherwise.
SO GUTTED SO VERY GUTTED
Anyway we continued our journey at a very much slower speed eventually arriving at Split back on the sea front and managed to find a campsite with a beach and 2 dive boards that we had some fun on so all is definitely not bad.
Hope the summer has started for all in the UK as we are definitely enjoying the sunshine down here.
More soon
