So I've been off line for a few days while in Vegas. No free wifi in the Flamingo !! bummer. Oh well breakfast at Maccas allowed Jess to check fb and my emails with their free wifi !!
So after leaving Cortez we travel through Monument Valley and wow it is amazing. I have only put up a few of the pictures...could have gone mad. The mountains and rock formations here are different to the other national parks we have been through. Hard for Ray to drive and not want to keep looking at everything along the way. We stop many times and take pictures. All round a worthwhile drive.
From there we continue on our way to Zion. We come across a great dam. It's called the Glen Canyon Dam. It is about the same size as the Hoover and is very interesting to read all the information on how it was built and the right place to put a dam. From there we continue on until we are about an hour out of Zion. We stop for the night at a place called Kanab. Nice place with a very interesting main street.
Next day we decide to stop at a place we have seen advertised on a brochure for a free tour of Best Friends Animal Sancturary. It is wonderful. It caters for cats, dogs, birds, horses, pigs, and wild life needing medical care. It sits on over 1300 acres of rocky green land leading into Zion National Park. We stayed a couple of hours and made a donation for a wonderful cause. Onto Zion. Well look at the pictures and see yet another amazing park. this is our last park and it probably tops them all. With it's towering mountains and sheer rock faces we see people rock climbing and absailing down. Here you can camp, do long and short hikes and just worry that you don't get lost . What is especially amazing is the road that runs through it all. there are two tunnels one of which took a year to do and then 3 years to complete the rest of the roads through. !! Another tick on our bucket list.
After a very long day of driving we finally pull into Las Vegas.
Here we have booked rooms at the Flamingo. We have been here 3 times before and yet we are still struck by the wonderful lights and sounds of the strip. Of course the weird and crazy people on it keep you people watching as well. It's hot already here and we are glad we have only booked three nights. On our second night we go to a show called XBurlesque. Basically a strip show with a bit more class. It was pretty good, girls very atheletic on the pole.....and stage. The lady comedian they had for a short time was funny as. All in all was a good night out. Our last night we go on the latest thing to hit Vegas. It's called the High Roller. It is the highest "Ferris" wheel in the world. We went on at night time for the best views up at 550 feet high you see for miles and miles. Was smooth and not scary at all. Loved it. We also had a chance to go into the M & M's shop and see the long tall wall of all different M & M's you can choose from to buy. Yum.
So just like that our three nights in Vegas are done and this morning we fly out from there and are now in San Francisco for four nights. Hoping the weather here stays in the mid to low 20's as we have had enough heat for the last few weeks. Tomorrow we will probably do hop on hop off buses and visit everywhere we can.
Till then see ya to everyone and will post again in a few days xxxx A R J J
