Hey Everyone,
Im now in Darwin staying with Betty & dennis's son - Declan. (people I stayed with in Melbourne with.) I've offically gone across the country from south, through the middle and up to the top of Australia!
The 6 day trip was split into 2 sections, firstly a 3 day tour wth 'Oz Experience'. The tour consisted of doing a base walk round uluru at 5pm (still too hot to walk round in 2hours but hey.) The sunset was incredible, the colours really do change! the spot we watched it from was away from all the coach load of tourists whilst sipping cold champers - gotta do it in style! That night we ate kangeroo on that BBQ which, I quite liked. It was abit chewy with a similar texture/flavour to steak/beef. Spend the night in a swag - outdoor mattress on the ground over the top of your sleeping bag. whie we went to sleep watching shooting stars - magic. We had to be up a 4am the next morning to watch the sunrise. The sunrise itself was pretty good, but know where as pretty as the sunset.
That day we were given a guided walk to various areas of uluru, and went to see kata - tjuta (the olgas). the hike took about 2 hours, but the view from the top was well worth the effort! In the afternoon it was back on the road, collecting fire wood and making the campfire at the campsite at kings cayon.
The next day was another early start to do a 3 hour hike around kings cayon. it began with a steep hill 'named - heart attack hill'. The rest of the hike wasn't too bad. Before getting back on the bus for a 6 hour drive back to Alice Springs for a meal at Annie's Place.
We arrived at the hostel at 7pm to be at supper for 7.30pm - shower, dress, make up, camera done. The meal itself was to be expected for $5 but it was ok. That night I really wasn't in the mood for partying or drinking and i had to be on the bus at 5.40am for the next part of the tour.
Overall I found the tour itself really good. Although I didn't particularly gel with anyone in the group, except for the spainish couple and a german guy named Dominic (Guy with the hat on in the photo.)
The 2nd part of the tour will follow shortly in the next blog!
Happy reading...love C xxxxxxxx
