Pat and I thought we would see a lot of the country side while driving but on the main roads there are a lot of banks sheilding the view. So we are doing quite a few detours into the smaller back roads. Very narrow lanes with stone walls covered with vines. High speed on these roads are they nuts.
Whitney - North Leigh
Booked into a hotel in Whitney and when we arrived we found they had double booked the rooms because they had a big wedding booked. So they arranged for us to stay at another place for the same price. When we drove to the new accommodation we found that it was a very large very old estate house (mansion) we thought this was awesome.......... because of another wedding being held there our new room is part of what used to be the servants quarters...aaaaawwww... but the grounds are beautiful.
Wigan
This one of those road works b***** ups that everyone hears about. We were following the GPS to the A Weatherspoon hotel and the local council has the road closed off so that we couldn't get through. So in order to get to the hotel we had to go all over the place to get back to the hotel. We decided to have a drink in the bar before tea. Pat has made a vow to try as many of the different types of beer across the different countries we visit.
I decided to have baileys and milk. The bar has a tea and coffee bar so I bought the Baileys and filled the glass with milk from the tea & coffee bar....hey its free why not. The meals here are extremely large but I enjoyed it as it deep fried Yummyness.
The Great Orme
Driving around the cliffs that forms the Great Orme has spectacular views. Along the coast you can see the giant wind turbines making up the wind farms out off the coast. The buildings along the esplanade are built in a curve right around the bay. There is a tramway running up the cliff from a mine. A putput course & restaurant also sit high on the cliffs. I am buying magnets at these types of places as we drive around. They are small and easily taken home as souvenirs
Swallow Falls
Pat and I walked down to the bottom of the water falls. I LOVE water falls. In the pool at the base of the falls where the stairs end you can see coins of all denominations & from different countries. People must throw coins into the water for luck or something like that. We left the falls and had lunch in the restaurant. lovely meals beautiful scenery.
