Arriving at Phnom Penh Airport after a 4 hour bus ride from Sihnoukville. Safe Travels to all the riders! Some have decided to stay a few extra days in Cambodia, others are on to new adventures in neighboring countries while the majority have been making their journey home. For our final day, we started early riding along a main road. As we set off the sun was shining and it was hot and windy. The road had a number of hills which made for a challenging ride into the wind. As we rode on, the very heavy rain started making it very hard to see and soaking us to the bone. Today's journey took us along dirt rural roads running through rice fields. It was another very bumpy ride between all the potholes and rocks. We made our way towards the mountains and had a good stretch of hill climbing. We were in the middle of nowhere so lucky there were hardly any cars on that stretch. The views were breathtaking. Today was one of emotions, history, truth, stories, memories, unbroken spirits, forgiveness, peace, and hope. The day began for some of us with a trip to Prison S-21 and the Killing Fields. We listened to the stories of toture, misery, and survival. We met 2 of the 7 survivors of S-21. My strong exterior was ripped away. Today is day 6 of our journey and with over (250Ks) completed and about another (150K) to go and I must admit it has been hard. An extreme challenge. In fact, as I look back over the last week or so, the most accurate overall description of Cambodia I can muster is that it is a place of extremes.
