Off The Beaten Track...
Tam: We had heard that several hours away from Oaxaca were some beautiful beaches so we decided to chill by the Pacific ocean for a few days as we were ahead of schedule and anyways would be great to take it easy before hitting Mexico City ( with its population of over 20 million). What a great idea it was!
After a hellish busride of about 8 hours winding around mountains for the entire trip (seriously rated one of the worst bus trips ever! And love my bus rides!). We made to a balmy laid back beachy town. We got into our hotel which wasnt too shabby either. It was on the top floor overlooking Zicatela beach, the famous surfer beach known for what's called the " Mexican Pipeline". The room had a very large balcony, cable tv, great huge shower and best of all our own fridge. So simple, but made such a difference, we loved preparing our own breakfast of cornflakes, fruit and museli and esting it on the balcony eat morning. All this too for only 250 pesos a night - the cheapeast Mexican accomodation yet!
So the next 4 days were spent swimmig at the different beaches. The first was too dangerous because of the waves, the second Carizalillo we found by bumping into Michael ( a guy we met on our Oaxaca tour) was perfect, gorgeous blue green water, deep enclosed on a small inlet with white sand and no crashing surf, just enough waves to keep you bobbing back and forth. We loved it so much we returned their on the third day too and loved also the fresh cold cups of mixed fruit sold for 20 p.
On our last day and to ensure that Coxy's tan stuck, we beached it at Bahia Principal just past the rocks at Zicatela, calm deep water and umbrella and chairs for a bit of comfort.
What a contrast to our next destination - Mexico City - noisy, crowded and smelly ( not being mean, but the city has been built on a drained out lake which is why most of the old buildings lean and sink and why the smell coming from the drains make you want to vom). 18 hours by bus, good movies on the tele and more Gossip Girl watched by me, also was interesting to see sone chick pick up the bus driver and they literally didnt stop talking for 12 hours straight. All in all a comfy ride, the last half hour though i was dying to get out.
PS Soz no photos am relying on free wifi to write these blogs so cant upload piccies for a while. Xx
